Hello Experts,

Is flash variable supported with SAP NetWeaver BW connection? if yes, suggest me a detailed documentation on same.

I'm working on dashboards SP6 & have SAP NetWeaver 7.3 SP9.

Flash variables will not work in IRJ portal,as it is specific to the BI Launchpad only,in the SAP BW netweaver connection you cannot view the dashboard on the BI Launvhpad and cannot use the flash variables.

i don'T think this is true. As far as i know you can use flash variables if you use the "old" way to connect to a BW Query (but then you have to store the dashboard on the netweaver portal!!).

By doing so you get the url by running it locally in the designer and you can just add your flashvariables with variablename=Value to the url and can use it in Dashboards.

If you access BW Queries with the "new" way you are not able to use flash variables.

You are able to use those flash variables (and append it to an opendocument url) and also be able to read it from dashboard side, but you cannot attach it to the BEx Query defined in the Query. Please see the following screenshot.

Apart from that here is the way to the old access style (where you have to save the dashboard on the netweaver portal)

I hope this helps you out ?!

Hi Sandip,

Sure - but i have to link you to another thread http://scn.sap.com/thread/3308025

Here you will find ways to use flashvariables. Attach the &var1=Value1&var2=Value2&and so on ... to the Netweaver URL. You can find the URL when you run the dashboard on SAP-Netweaver.

If you have that working you have to assign those parameter values to your input data.

Therefore put the cell where you store those parameters to the hgihlighted variable entries.

That's it.

If you have multiple values then you have to select multiple Excel-Cells in the picture above.

Hopefully it is workuing for you.

Best regards

Hello Manfred,

The link you suggested also talks @ the dashboard published in BO server, as it talks @ CUID...

But, i'm still not clear whether, it is possible for the dashboards published on BW server.

Hi Sandip,

Sorry for my late reply !

I had a look at my environment and if i store my dashboard on netweaver and use the "Launch" from the SAP Menu in dashboards an Internet Explorer is getting opened pointing to my Netweaver Server:

In my case the URL is pointing to:

http://<servername:serverport>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fcom.sap.pct!2fp...XCELSIUS_DEMO_MASC

this is the equivalent to opendocument ID (with its CUID and so on)

After that you can go ahead and put your flashvariables! Be sure to divide the parameters with the ampersand character.

&param1=value1&param2=value2

The value of the DASHBOARD Parameter is the name of the dashboards file.

Please try it with your dashboards and the launchbutton. You can try to pass the flashvariables first on the BOE-server side (saving there is faster

Thanks and regards

Manfred
