EPM Add-On - Derive dimension value from value of other dimension value

Hello Experts,

In a Scenario of Cost Center planning we have dimensions like Company COde, Profit Center, Cost Center, Currency, Audit Trail, Flow, Time, Account etc. In EPM template I have a requirement where in, if a user selects cost Center then the Profit Center, Company code  and currency Dimension should get derived and saved against the dimensions.

In the EPM template I have Cost Center, accounts, in row axis and time in the column axis. How do I default dimensions like Company code, Profit Center and currency against Dimension to avoide any error.

Hi Mahesh,

Please explain "if a user selects cost Center then the Profit Center, Company code  and currency Dimension should get derived and saved against the dimensions"

What is the relation between Cost Center and Profit Center from one side and Company code  and Currency from another side.

Where this relation is stored - some property?

Hi Vadim,

I have property of cost Center as Company code, Currency and Profit Center.

In the Report I have taken Cost Center in the Row Axis and with "EPMMemberProperty" function I have inserted columns and added currency, Company code and Profit center against the cost Center. But these 3 are also dimensions and I want to save "these properties" this against those dimensions.

If this is possible by keeping cost center at the page axis it would still serve the purpose.

Hi Mahesh,

It's hard to answer when you provide so little details...

Assuming CostCenter has properties: CompanyCode, Currency and ProfitCenter (3 properties) then for the Row Axis in the Current Report (right side bar) click on dimension CompanyCode dimension and remove the link to Context and add the Dimension Propery, select the dimension CostCenter, select the property CompanyCode. Something like this:

Use the same approach for Currency and ProfitCenter.

You will have rows with CostCenter and correctly selected other dimensions.

Hi Vadim/Tim

Thanks a lot for the help. I was trying with EPMSAVEDATA but was not able to make it work.

Hi Mahesh,

In the report editor, you can link the value of a dimension, to the value of a property in another dimension. The report will then use the value from the selected property. So in this case you would store the ID's of the Profitcentre, Company code and currency somewhere in the properties of the Cost centre dimension, and then these dimensions can be linked to the dimension property in the cost centre dimension.

You can find this option in the EPM report editor, in the drop down box with All members, Bas Level, Blank Level, Dimension Property. If you selected dimension property, there are 2 additional drop down boxes shown, where you can select which dimension and which property you want to link the dimension to.

With kind regards,
