Hi ,
Could any body tell me how is the alternate BOM selected and how does it affect the functionality of a product.
Say for eg ,for one material ,alt BOM is 3 and for another its 1 and they both are linked to one document. So what would happen if I change the alt BOM of the material.
Thanks,
DJ

Alternative functionality is used when a final product (FG) can be manufactured in two separate ways were it might be inhouse production or outsourced.
This FG might have different components to get final product.
There are three ways to trigger the alternate BOM in SAP.
1. Based on order quantity.
2. Based on Valid from and Valid to dates.
3. Based on Production version
Refer the below help link it may help you to understand much better..

What one document?
Basically an alternate BOM is another list of components for the same FG.
For e.g. you can have two alternate BOMs for a material - one for in-house production and one for subcontracted manufacturing.
Or you can have 2 alternates for two different production lines.
