Webi Rich Client 2-Tier Mode works eventhough local ODBC connection is missing

Hi Experts,

I am facing very unusual issue.

1) I have installed WRC BI4.1 SP8 on my local machine.

2) We exported few of the ODBC connections from the BO server and then imported those on my local machine.

3) After importing those ODBC connections on my local machine, we find that the WEBI reports based on those connections are working fine. Till is step, all is good.

4) But surprisngly, From the WRC (2-tier mode) installed on my local machine, I am also able to create & refresh reports based on ODBC connections that are NOT present on my LOCAL machine, (They are present on the BO server).

Question is how are the reports running eventhough their corresponding ODBC connections are not present in the LOCAL machine ?

Any ideas, inputs would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Monish,

Check the

C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\dataAccess\connectionServer\cs.cfg file

Go to:

</Locales>
<!-- Capabilities: Selects the ConnectionServer deployment modes to be used at runtime. -->
<!-- Local: The Connectivity service is locally provided, embedded in the client process -->
<!-- (EnableJNI is used to allow/deny the use of JNI) -->
<!-- Remote: The Connectivity service is remotely provided on a BOE server. -->
<Capabilities>
<Capability Name="Local" EnableJNI="Yes" Active="Yes"/>
<Capability Name="Remote" Active="Yes"/>
</Capabilities>

Could you please check by deleting the cache data Go to Installing Directory of BusinessObjetcs\SAP BusinessObjects\SAPBusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\Data directory.

If your connections are shared not secure type then these will point from your local system connections..

Once your connection type is secured & exported to repository once then these will point to your BO server.

It is not necessary to import universe in your local system before creating/refreshing BO reports from Webi Rich client.

ODBC connection is required in your local machine if connection type are shared and universe not exported yet.in that case BO universe need ODBC connection from your local system.
