hi,
i'm very excited about AIE,a step in the right direction. when will be the next version available and such things as ddic for example? are next versions availbable only with installing higher versions in backend (we are on 740 sp3) or will the become available for our version too????

Hi Oliver,
as we still have the server based development model for ABAP in Eclipse most of the new features are dependent on the SP stack of the backend. That means when we ship a new client you also need to update the server components to get all the new features.
Concerning a new version you know that it is christmas time. And so we decided to have a christmas present for the ABAP developer comunity. So it is most likely that we get a new version before christmas. And I heard from Santa Claus that there is also something from the DDIC contained.
Just wait another week.
Kind Regards,
Thomas.

Hi thomas
but it is not easy to always upgrade to new SP's ;-), are there any plans to make such features available via normal OSS-Notes????

oliver
btw.: Abap in Eclipse is cool

Hi Thomas,
"as we still have the server based development model for ABAP in Eclipse"
Is that means there is a roadmap for client based development model
Cheers,
Abdulbasit.

Hi Abdul,
such christmas presents are nearly impossible 🙂
We are not working on a offline development model for ABAP for Eclipse.

Thomas.

Hi Oliver,
yes, I know the problems with the upgrades on customer side.
But we deliver new features only via Support Packages. OSS Notes are only for Bug Fixes. Otherwise you run quickly in not acceptable dependencies between features and fixes.
Kind Regards,
Thomas.

some colleague at sap oss answered to a bug-fix request that it will be correcte with next adt version (client one) available on 20th december and can be used with 740 SP3 , so i am wondering as you wrote that new versions need a new sp at backend ????
best regards

Hi Oliver,
I said that most of the new features are dependent on a new backend version but not all. In case the functionality can be implemented completely on the client you can use the feature also against older backends. In general every new client runs against older backends without loosing functionality.
Kind Regards,
Thomas.

Hi Thomas,
thanks for the information.
especially with new technology it is even more difficult to get information on one central point to know whats new, whats compatibel with what. in former days help.sap.com was the place but now , for AIE we have to check the AIE Space on SDN, do we ?
best regrads
