System environment requirements for creating Crystal Report from BEx Query

I need to set up an environment to create Crystal Reports from BEx Query and then save the Crystal Reports in BW system. But I cannot open the Crystal Report after saving. It would be best if we can create Crystal Report WITHOUT BOE. Is there any articles I can used as a reference for this scenario?

Currently my environment includes: BW system using NW 740, and Crystal Report 2011.

In order to create Crystal Report from BEx Query I selected SAP-->Create New Report from a Query. And then save the report to BW system under a role in the systems.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Lily

Hello Lily,

you should use Crystal REports 2013 instead of 2011 and when you install Crystal REports make sure that the SAP Toolbar is installed. You will also need the SAP GUI with BEx installed on the system.

then you should be able to save and open a report to / from BW.

You can find the details in the installation / admin guide for Crystal REports available on help.sap.com

Hello Ingo

Thanks for your reply, is there a big different between Crystal Report 2011 and Crystal Report 2013?

Thanks,

Hello Ingo,

I had tried to create reports with CR 2013, still encountered issues as following:

1) When select SAP --> Save Report as... to save the report on BW server, there is a popup asking whether need to "Prepare this report for translation" and "Automatically publish to Enterprise". After checked both selection and save, a new popup shows "An error occured while saving and/or publishing. The return code 503 was returned from the server. ReportID entered was invalid".

2) After checking, even though there is the upper error message, reports still saved to Server. But when I tried to run the report directly from the server, I got the following message "Unable to redirect to Business Objects Enterprise. The following details were provided: Invalid report id. Unable to resolve it to a Business Objects Enterprise system. Report id = Z0GPC_CN_RS_CRZ001"

Is there any rule about how to define report id? And does these message means I have to use a BOE server to publish the report?

Thanks,

Lily

Hello Lily,

on item #1 - did you conifgure the publishing with the SAP BusinessObjects Server ? If not please take a look at the installation guide for the software.

on item #2 - most likely you didn't configure the complete integration, so please take a look at the installation material and follow the steps form the product documentation.

Hello Ingo,

Thank for your reply. I had check Installation Guide and Administrator Guide for BI platform. Definitely the error is caused by uncompleted cofiguration. But these configuration I need the help of IT to complete.

Since I am really new in this area, I have another question about creating Crystal Report based on BEx Query.

Is there any way to create a Crystal Report without use of service provided by BOE?

I had tried to publish Crystal Reports from BW to BI platform and also create a OLAP connection on BI platform and later creating a Crystal Reports based on it. But both way seemed to me need system to connect a BOE server.

But some BI function should have already been merged into Netweaver Basis, could we just use the merged parts to create a Crystal Report from BEx Query?

Thansk for your help in advance,

Best Wishes,

Lily

Hello Lily,

Crystal Reports DEsigner is there to create the reports and the SAP BusinessObjects Server is there to distribute and share the reports.

Hi

Yeah, there is a message shows:

"Unable to redirect to Business Objects Enterprise. The following details were provided: Invalid report id. Unable to resolve it to a Business Objects Enterprise system. Report id = Z0GPC_CN_RS_CRZ001"

Is there any rule about how to define report id? And does these message means I have to use a BOE server to publish the report?

Thanks very much for your help.

Best Wishes,
