Installing BI Platform 4.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 - Library Error

Former Member

Hi everyone,

I need your help/assistance. According to Install Guide several libraries are needed:

  • compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-69.el6.i686
  • compat-libstdc++-33.i686
  • compat-libstdc++-33-3.x86_x64
  • glibc.i686
  • libstdc++.i686
  • libX11-1.3-2.el6.i686

The problem is that these libraries seem not to be for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga) as I am getting following message.

Do I need different libraries for release 5?

Thanks Bhagat

Dear Bhagat,

Denis is right. Your system not register with RHN. Then only you can install package from redhat website. Alternatively those packages will available in DVD. I gues you are seatching for

"compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-69.el6.i686" might be redhat 5 contain old version of compat-libstdc++

And that is what I thought, that we have old versions of compat-libstdc++ which should be finde (that is no where documented and with that confusing)

Thanks!

Hi Bhagat,

I am also using the same configurations and  spent one full day resolving the issue.

It is mentioned in the install document ds_42_ips_install_unix_en but not highlighted very clearly and you are most likely to miss it.

Just when i got that fixed i came across your thread, it should be highlighted more more in the document.

Thanks!!

Hanish,

Could you please share how did you resolve the issue? We have a similar scenario that we need to install SAP BI platform in RHEL 5. We have the library compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61 in our provisioning repository but not the exact version as mentioned in the pre-requisites.

Thanks,

Balu

Error message indicates that you have no support with Red Hat and that's why those packages are not available.

Hi Bhagat,

You will get the missing libraries from the DVD itself ,,,directly double click on that and install no need to use yum for that ...another thing if you will follow the custom option and proceed with SAP note number 1048303 ,,...these missing libraries will not come .....

Hi,

If you are following Yum command ,,,you need to register your OS,,,,,,,Or you use same level of centos also ,,,,,here Yum and all is completely free.

Hi guys,

first of all thanks to everybody. The customer where I am sitting is using Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.4 and according to Product-Availabilty-Matrix it should work. The question is more if I need the mentioned libraries, which I think are libraries for RHEL6?

Thanks again for everyones support

Hi,

if they are stated in the PAM you should go ahead and install them.

I dont think that they are only RHEL 6 related as they are stated under RHEL 5.

If even this doesnt help i would recommend you open an Incident with the SAP Support.

Hi Sebastian,

problem is those libraries are not available within the CDs of RHEL5 that´s the reason why I asked.

So I will start to install on DEV environment and check.

Thanks, Bhagat

I know this page and already checked the prerequisites problem is that the guide is for Red Hat Enterprise 6.

I found another link but I am not sure how reliable the info is:

Dear Bhagath Singh,

You can install this package in two ways,

1. Reinstall OS by selecting required packages (Easy)

from above screenshot you have to select Customize Now Radio button and select required packages

2. After Installation You can install these packages using redhat DVD (Difficult)

   Insert DVD

   Open terminal and move to the location where the rpm packages are located in DVD

   use command "rpm -uvh <package name>

I checked the Cds as their lying in one of our folders. That´s why I was thinking that perhaps for Red Hat 5 other libraries are needed perhaps ?
