Item length variant creating thousands of codes.

Greetings. First time poster here.

We're having a bit of an issue with out SAP Business One implementation. We're implementing SAP Business One 9.0 with the BEAS Production Add-on. We produce steel roofs (roll-form flat sheets into roofs) at whatever length the customer desires based on their needs. Thing is, we're having to create a whole different item, and therefore a whole different code, for every single possible measurement down to the inch (we decided on the inch because we can't create codes down to millimiters). Our machines are perfectly adaptable and can produce items down to the mm. Here's an example:

Current ERP before SAP:

  • Item: Red Roof 0.50MM Thick (one code includes all measurements)
  • We Select the Size: ex. 9.3 Feet
  • Price calculated based on cost+margin per foot.

SAP Business One method:

  • Select Item based on measuremnt: Red Roof 0.50MM Thick 9.3 Feet
  • Price based on BOM + Margin.

We can't do a master item and have length be the quantity because our inventory is managed differently. We need to see stock as:

5 Red Roof 0.50MM Thick 10 Feet

6 Blue Rook 0.40MM Thick 5.1 Feet

With the new SAP method, we have to create a different item for Red Roof 9.1 Feet, Red Roof 9.2 Feet.. etc etc from 1 foot all the way up to 40 feet for every color, thickness, and shape available. So for a company that sells roughly 100 products, we have 98,000 items with different codes.

Any ideas on what we can do here? Our price list, item list, BOM list will be gigantic and I can only imagine what it'll be like to maintain and update.
