Installing Updates...

I'm a newbie learning his way around Sybase, I've tried google & FAQ's

After installing Sybase 12.01 do I need to install all the updates in numerical order from oldest to latest?

Or can I just install the latest update & that includes previous updates (a bit like MS Service packs)?

Many thanks,

Ralph

Hello Ralph

Are you referring to PowerDesigner 12? If so, that's ancient (it came out in 2005 or 2006), so I'd uninstall it now, and install 16.5.

Hi George,

Thank you for coming back to me, apologies on not making myself clearer, I'm using & referring to ASA12 (SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere)

For PD, each update is cumulative, so you don't need to install all the updates (I always keep mine bang up to date, I know most people aren't able to).

I don't know about SQL Anywhere - I use it for my local repository, but I don't update it very often - it's probably the same. You could ask the question at the SQL Anywhere group -

With SQLA it's the same as with PD, each EBF contains all changes of previous EBFs.

There's one caveat though: there exist two different releases: 12.0.0 and 12.0.1. Each of them has it's own series of EBFs, which will work only with the proper release installed.

If your installation is 12.0.0 you might want to upgrade to 12.0.1 before applying the latest EBF. The installation packet is called 'SQL Anywhere - Maintenance Release, Upgrade of 12.0.0 to 12.0.1'

Thank you Reimer,

That's what I needed to know.

We're using ASA 12.01

I've noticed the latest EBF is 3994 & I still have updates back as far as 3389 (200+MB each) & I wanted to know if I needed to keep them.

Apologies on plonking this thread in the wrong subject. Navigating around here is not the easiest.

Thanks again

Ralph
