Is Business Connector capable of converting iDoc to EDI Format?

Hi,

Is Business Connector capable of converting iDoc to EDI format? For example, the message type ORDERS to EDI 850 Format?

Short answer is no. Business connector is just a connector and has some mapping mechanism. But to do the mapping, you need to know the structure of the target EDI message and also need the logic for translating the IDOC structure into EDI message, converting internal tables into tags etc. I don't think business connector is capable of doing such complex manipulations.

You need an EDI subsystem like Gentran or mercator to do that. Alternatively you can have an EAI system like websphere or XI.

    Nikhil,

I am not a BC expert, but from my understanding there is no "out of the box" conversion service to convert various EDI formats into IDoc. That is not to say that there isn't any out there, but you may need to pay extra to get that functionality. However, I believe SAP XI (which superceeds Business Connector) does come with some of these conversion services. EDI Standards such as EDIFACT (and EDI 850 if I remember correctly...) come with pre configured mappings to IDocs.

If you can use XI instead maybe this will be a better option for you.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Pat.
