Fresh installation of SolMan 7.1 and bring it up to SP10 in one "Go"?

Hi,

I am about to do a fresh installation of a SolMan 7.1. I want to use the Software Provisioning Manger for it and I know how to use Sapinst. I have setup some ERP systems and one PI in the last year.

But what I do not understand with installations of SAP-Systems in general and also as it my task right now with the SolMan especially is the following.

I am downloading the "Installation Export 7.1 SR1 (2)", the Java Components, Languages, DB and Kernel. And then there is available SPS 4 and SPS 10.

Do I have to the basic system configuration of the SolMan (I am thinking of implementing the SolMan central note especially) or is it okay to proceed with tools like SWPM or SUM to install SPS10?

thank you and best regards

Sven

    Hi Sven,

First upgrade the Sp level to 10 and start the initial and Basic configuratuon in solman_setup.

Every SP having separate central note, so better upgrade the SP and start the solman_setup activities .

That sounds all promising and straightforward. I will let you know in the next couple of days how I fare.

      Thanks and best regards

I cant believe its Dec 19.

I am in Upgrade Phase 5.6 Execution. The upgrade "hangs" while updating the ABAP stack in phase "MAIN_NEWBAS/XPRAS_AIMMRG". And I have left it there for about 24hrs - it did not not move, the cpu is idle, its a Linux OS, so I see some jstart processes pop by once in while in top but thats all.

I have updated the Kernel, R3trans tools, the MaxDB, had setup STMS, registered the System with SAP to receive a valid License/Maintenance certificate before starting SUM and trying to go to SP10.

    <rant mode on>

There is not a "ready-to-run/to-configure" virtual machine image somewhere to download? Maybe I should I start to offer one or is this meant as some kind of training?

Alright, after a lot of patience and confidence in the upgrade process - it finished after 96hrs.

All errors occurred because the DB was still busy with one job where the next job was running in to its time-out.

All is good but I will pursue to propagate ready-to-configure VM images as a download for the SolutionManager.

    Hi,

as of today I have a working SolMan 7.1. SP11. It took me so long to get this system up and running because of some interruptions since I do have more than one resposibility. And since we are a comparable small developer shop, the way we use SAP-Systems differs from real-world production scenarios.

Nevertheless, the setup of the SolutionManager should be a lot more painless as it is today.Since I am an Apple user for a long time - for a reason: simplification - my view on the use of software might be prejudiced. Or already mainstream - see McDermotts Sapphire Keynote. I had posted my thoughts in the SAP Idea Space as well and I can only Appeal to everyone who is interested in an easier start with SolMan to make yourself heard.

My thanks in helping me to get my system running go out to all those who have been on the same path before me and have shared their knowledge here and on other places down in the depth of the net.

    Best

    Sven
