More than one relationship can be created between two activities

Dear Team,

Recently I start to get familiar with Project Builder (CJ20N).

When I create network activities, it is found that multiple relastionships can be created between the same two activities.

As I think, normally there should be only one relationship type between two tasks in project planning.

But I'm not sure why multiple relationships can be created in SAP PS.

Can I restrict that only one relationship can be created between two activities?

Please tell me whether there is any solution available.

Thanks and regards,

Kila

Hi Kila,

You right in the PS there's multiple relationship but not all same kind of relation ship that repeat it again it's all kind of different relationships like Start to start or Start to Finish and Finish to Start Like here i am sending you the link please go through it you will get a clear understanding of the PS- Relationship

SAP Library - Structure

Thanks

Hi Nifrash,

Thanks for your help.

I understand there're 4 relastionship types in PS.

However, I hope to know that whether this situation is correct and reasonbale:

1) In a network, draw a line with FS relationship type, from activity 0010 to activity 0020.

2) Draw a second line with SS relationship type, also from activity 0010 to 0020.

3) Draw a third line with FF relationship type, still from activity 0010 to 0020.

4) Then save, these nodes are saved successfully.

5) Open the project again, between activity 0010 and 0020, all the three lines with different relationships exist.

If this situation is not correct, how to solve it?

Hi Kali Li,

I don't think we can perform an one activity with multiple relationships in real time as well as in SAP. i.e actvity 0010 and 0020 have realtion FS, based on this relationship and activity duration system does the scheduling and define the dates along with critical paths. If we maintain dual/multiple relations to activities 0010 and 0020 we don't get accurate scheduled dates and critical paths of the activities.

you can mutiple relationships between activities 0010, 0020 and 0030

Ex: 0010 FS 0020,  0020 SS 0030, 0010 FF 030

HI Kali Li,

Technically SAP allows you to assign multiple successor relationship with same activity. This should not be allowed. You should raise this to SAP to make correction.

Meanwhile you can achieve your requirement by using user exits in validation rules where following needs to be configured:

1. Prerequisites: if the user statuses (like open, PO creation etc.) has been set.

2. check: Z user exit, in the activity tab for a particular activity, multiple checks boxes (AFABD-NCHKZ) should not be active for combination ACTIVITY-NETWORK.

This validation will not allow user to save network activity if multiple relationship exists with same successor activity.

Thanks and regards,

Narender.
