Used Hana backend for designing Dashboard

Dear All,

Till Date i have designed many dashboards but for all the dashboards BI is the Back end now i have to design few dashboards by taking HANA as a back end request you to please share few useful link so that i will cop up with this new development.

Hi Rohan,

SAP Dashboard is well supported for SAP HANA backend. there is no complexity involved in it. We use universe created on top of SAP HANA views or tables in our dashboard just like any other relational back end database like SQL or Oracle. You can consume the .unx universe using query browser and design your dashboard..

I talk about direct SAP HANA connectivity in dashboard is not available.

Agree with Nikhil,

I am leading few dashboard projects on HANA as backend and there is absolutely no difference of HANA being a back end vs any other relational database being back end for dashboard..

The only difference comes while building universe although traditional way of joining table for universe will works for better performance you should be using HANA information models while building the universes..

Thanks for your information now i am clear with the steps like first we need to create relational coneection then data foundation & business layer. Can you please give some more information.

• What kind of task we needs perform at hana studio level i heard that some sort of modelling is require there as well?
• How to create HANA views ?
• Is HANA studio is sort of BI tool ?
• What is the concept of HANA Live?

Hi Rohan,

About your first two questions, definitely those are not a report developers job. We have to model data in HANA and HANA developer in your project will be doing it. HANA views and designing is a vast concept and you can find n number of docs for the same from internet.

By BI tools if you are referring SAP BO reporting tool? then HANA studio is definitely not one. HANA live , as far as i know is, SAP delivered contents, which can be deployed easily for leveraging real time data reporting and it can be customized.

Hi Durgamadhab,

I have experience in Xcelsius Dashboard & found often we need to utilize below options for performance in dashboards.

1. Pre-aggregated tables - where the information is aggregated and prepared and dashboard pulls this 1-1

2. Scheduling providers - use last successful instance.

With HANA in place, what is your view on the above, in particular point 1.

For sources with lot of data do we need a pre-aggregated layer given than HANA is "in memory"?

You can create a dashboard without creating UNX universe from SAP Hana.

Hi,

I think Dashboard (Xcelsius) is not supported SAP HANA as backend. for that you have to use Design Studio. Please Refer Link : http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7946 There is no connectivity mentioned for SAP HANA in xcelsius dashboard.
