Portal roles uploaded from R/3

Hi all,

Right now, when we assign a user to a role in R/3, we have to upload the role to the portal so the user gets the role in the portal.  Is there something that can be put in place so roles can be automatically uploaded to the portal nightly?  For instance, I have a role with a launch pad attached to it.  If I add a user to the role in R/3, the only way that the portal is going to know that they have that role is if I upload it to the portal with the user mappings.  I want to be able to automate this some how.

We are running Portal 7.31 and ERP 6 EhP6.

Does any one have any suggestions into how something like this can be accomplished?

You can configure UME to use AS ABAP as Data Source. Portal will get role assignments automatically, ABAP roles will be visible as groups in UME.

Hey Samuli,

What if we are using LDAP for authentication?  My guess is that we would have to create a group or role or something in LDAP and then assign the R/3 role to it then and/or portal role?

Hey Samuli,

We have LDAP as the datasource because it is being used for SSO.  So from what I understand and talking to basis, this will not work for us.

Am I right?

I assume you are using SPNEGO for SSO? As far as I know SPNEGO will be happy as long as the authenticated user can be validated by UME, regardless what UME is using. However, don't take my word for it. I have never tried SPNEGO without having UME use LDAP nor have I tried the "LDAP Integration" setting of the AS ABAP Data Source. Maybe someone here has...
