Depreciation Key Change

Dear All,

We have changed depreciation key, old LINS (Period control method - Dep for whole month irrespective of date of purchase, new ZLINS - Depreciation to the day)

My question is that:-

1. Do we have to create a new asset with new depreciation key ZLINS and do ABUMN?

2. We can change dep key directly in asset master (as02) and replace old dep key

I checked with option 2 above and revised depreciation calculation seems okay. In one of my previous clients the same methodology shows error

As far as i know that system won't permit change in depreciation key if dep key is changed and either old or new one has dep key with period control methoed and dep to the day

In my case, as I said option 2 is working fine. Will there be any implications later on if I follow option 2?

Thank You

Nishu Shah

    Hi Nishu,

    1. Please check if all the relevant notes around this scenario have been applied in your systems. You can verify same with your old client's system where this is not working. SAP has come out with lots of notes on various scenarios where someone changes depreciation terms suddenly including the deprecation key and other parameters.

    2. If in the system in which you are checking is working, do few more tests with different scenarios, like acquisition on assets for current year, previous year, legacy year, fully depreciated (if applicable), etc and then take the step ahead.

In most of the cases, it should be possible. So if results are positive, please move ahead.
