Does asking to close a post constitute Violation of rules of engagement

First of all let me start by telling I have read the rules of engagement and also read blog about what the SCM member should do to close the post once the issue is fixed..

I have a question which I am not very sure : If an user had opened a question and then after a lot of discussion the issue got fixed and user said in the post that the issue is resolved but he did not close the post and the post is still marked as unanswered.

So in this case if some one asks the user

"If the issue is fixed, please close the post by marking the correct answer for everyone's benefit in the forum.."

will it constitute violation of SCN rule of engagement ?

The sentence like it is shown is in general okay, as it is neutral and does not prefer any user or answer and doesn't say anything about points.

And in the context mentioned above (OP had himself written that the issue is closed) it is okay too.

But honestly, if he had not closed the discussion, then he probably did not know how to do it. In that case such sentence would not not really guide him

However, if you add this as a reply to any content where you participated and which did not get closed immediately then it gets already a smell.

And if it gives an example to all others then we have a lot noise and 70 % of all discussions would end with a reply having this statement.

I prefer that a moderator is approaching the member, a moderator can do this "silent" with a direct message, can even add a link to my blog to guide the user. I do this regularly when I see users who have more than 5 or 10 "open" questions with numerous answers.    Especially when I see that this user always closed his discussions  before the new forum was implemented and suddenly stopped doing it.

So should we wait, that one of the moderators for the space sees that thread or should we inform by using the soon to be re-named "Alert moderator"-button to help you find those threads more easily? I'm one of those who posts hints as that, so it would be nice to know, if we as users should interfere at all in this case.

In an older version of the it was said:

Close Discussions: Encourage members to mark responses to their questions as “helpful” or "answered" when appropriate and ask them to document the solution if they found it themselves.

I am still following this principle even it has vanished from the rules. 

And I really appreciate any meaningful notification as it helps in the moderation work.  It is impossible to monitor each and every forum entry, many eyes see more than just two (who already need glasses)

If you are connected with the moderator, then you can use direct messages. If the moderator has made the mail address visible you can use normal email. In case you use the Abuse-Button, then keep in mind that the abuse report will be rejected otherwise we lose the discussion, which does not mean that it goes un-noticed by the moderator.

I'm used to that now due to the thread I report for being in the wrong space. ^^ Your blog about the abuse reports helped there a lot.

Maybe there could be another new category for informing the moderators about discussions that can be closed. Like the "wrong space" etc, that was added lately. This way you guys can also differenciate easier, what the report is about.
