Webi with BICS - Low performance

Former Member

Hi Expert,

we have WEBi report on BW query with BICS tecnology.

The issue is that when a report webi is opened, there is a long time to have the prompt.

This occur in the first execution , then the time for have the prompt is riduced.

We find that during the first execution, the DSL bridge service work intensively.

Could be this service the responsible of our issue?

The BI platform is BI 4.0 SP5 Fix Pack 4.

Thank and kind regards.

Andrea

Please check the KBA below..I am not totally sure if its applicable for SP05 however it is worth checking out..

1771437 - Lists of Values in BI4.0 SP04 require a long time to be loaded

Thank you but i think that this correction is just active.

The oss message ask to install patch 4.4 or higher to solve the issue.

We try also to execute the report with BO SP7 FP1, but the first time, for have the prompt, is still long.

Thank and kind regards.

As Ingo suggests, Sizing of the BIPlatform is of paramount imporance. (especially APS / DSL Bridge)

FYI - there are some web-on-bics 'design time' performance improvements in 4.1 release, see here : http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/blog/2013/09/06/bi-41-on-bw-7x-performance-improvements

(Although there is an 'interoperability' dependency on BW upgrade to 7.30 SP10, 7.31 SP08 or 7.40 SP05 .)

and further improvements since 4.1 SP02 (in the area of mandatory variable without a default value) .

DSL Bridge - 8 GB

Where i could find the memory parameter for Webi e Java App server in CMC?

However we followed these document for optimized webi services:

Hello Andrea,

none of them are about sizing your BI4 system.

I would suggest you take a look at the actual sizing material from SAP for BI4 :

http://sap.com/bisizing

and size your system according to these guidelines.

What about the level of your BW -   What version, eph and SPs are you using?  do you have the latest BICS corrections in the range mentionned above?

Hi Henry,

our WEBi reports are based on two BW: one is 7.30 SP09 and the second is 7.01 SP06.

The Web Intelligence Monitoring Service, it was configured

following the best practices described at:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-31711

page 31 paragraph 9.1 e 9.2.

In particolar, when i open one WEBI report , there is a phase first to have the popup window "refreshing data" very long.

In this phase , i checked that the DSL Bridge service work intensively and in the BI Launch pad a page grey is shown .

Thanks and kind regards.

Andrea,

when you run the underlying BEx queries in BW without any BI tools on top - for example in RSRT - what is the time for running the BEx queries ?

and keep in mind that you woould have to put every element that is used in Web Intelligence into the Rows in the Query Designer before running the query to have comparable results.

When i run in RSRT, the time is about 4-5 sec.

In webi , to return the same informations: (row and column) in a table form, is necessary 20 sec about.

Thanks.

Hello Andrea,

could you share a screenshot of the BEx query in the Query Designer and a screen shot from the Web Intelligence Query Panel and the Web Intelligence report ?

thanks
