Bug Or Am I Missing something

There are instances where you have a dimension (or Characteristics in bw) with a label for which when you analyse a particular key figure, you end up having wrong analysis. Example beeing the "Customer" in cost center cube with costs.

I would have thought that datawarehousing means this would be part of data-cleansing and correcting the label and user should simply drag and drop without any concern for the source of data.

Am I missing something on fundamentals? Or Is it a bug in BCT?

In Cost Center Cube you have Customer (label) charecteristics which is 0debtor (should not matter really) and cost element charecteristics. Also you have amount as key figure.

Now If it were Cognos, I would expect the developer to take care of this labeling issue during datacleansing, and therefore he can pass the authorisation to create queries to some business users to do multidimentional analysis.

I wanted to give my BW client the flexibility of creating his own queries for multidimentional analysis. But for a cube such as of in CO_OM_CCA, I can see that if somebody built a P&L on customer he would get it completely wrong.

I have noticed this at many other places in SAP provided cubes that the labeling in horribly incorrect and it screws up your analysis because normally BW consultants do not have strong functional background and at times implement without a strong functional support. I think everything should work fine if the labeling were accurate.

Now I have dropped the idea of allowing the business super users to create their own queries. Is there a solution, which can allow me to extend this service to some business users and not worry about the labeling (I do not want to manually label all the characteristics?

I think at the end of the Day you can really think of Queries itself as the objects for mutidimentional analysis and cubes as your databasis. (sapspeak!)

Thats my thought on it.

Is my perpective missing something?

Hi dear,

sorry but I'm not exactly understanding your question...

What are you looking ?

What chars are included in this 'customer' dimension inside this cube (what's the technical name of it ?)

Bye,
