Hi Team,
Is the App Builder also used to build UI5 desktop applications? Or do we have a different product marketed for it.
I understand HTML5/UI5 being a write once run everywhere are we targeting this tool to build apps across devices.. including Desktop, mobile and Tablets?
Please share your thoughts.
Regards,
Ramesh P
Hi Ramesh,
In the official capacity, version 1 of AppBuilder is designed as a tool to develop application for mobile/tablet application only. Therefore, it is not officially supporting developing desktop application. But as you said UI5 is "a write once run everywhere are we targeting this tool to build apps across devices", we are confident the UI5 app you develop using AppBuilder should work on desktop too. Especially with AppBuilder is actually development tool running on desktop browser and that you can preview your app on desktop browser. It's just that the look-and-feel on desktop browser would be the same as on mobile.
I hope that answer your question.
Regards
Ming

App builder IDE is a brand new release from SAP that enables you to develop SAPUI5 mobile apps with OData, SMP, rest etc. SAPUI5 apps are based on web browser hence it will runs in desktop, tablets and mobile devices. One of the biggest example is the FIORI apps. These are based on SAPUI5 that runs in desktop, tablets and mobile devices.
The apps built under App builder uses the cordova container hence it will be similar to HWC applications. In the documentation of the tool its not mentioned about support to the desktop. Hope there will be some way to support desktop too using the browser in desktop.

Hi Ramesh,
If you think about Sybase Unwired Workspace app designer, I doubt you can build UI5 desktop applications with it. As far as I know there is separate Eclipse plugin and SDK for SAPUI5 applications.
Check these links please:

There is also this third-party development tool that is for desktop and mobile applications:

http://scn.sap.com/community/mobile/blog/2013/07/22/getting-started-with-neptune-and-sapui5-mobile
Main difference is that SUP Workspace is for SUP server, while SAPUI5 applications works on Netweaver Gateway server.
Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong

Vladimir
