    Hi Anu,

All the services, iviews, logon process,..etc have a par file which is deployed on the portal server.

if you wish to check all the existing .par, search in:

    <c/d drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\root\WEB-INF\deployment folder.

or by *.bak, since all the .par file are saved as .bak files on the portal server.

you would be requiring these par file when you want to customize any feature/service...example: custmize the Portal login page.

    hope this helps.

    all the best.

    Warm Regards,

    Ritu R Hunjan

    Hi Anu,

Portal applications are packaged in PAR (Portal Archive) files. A PAR file is a standard ZIP file with a .par extension that contains all Java classes, Web resources and other files required to run the application.

Within the portal, the name of the PAR file is the name of the application. The fully qualified name of any component or service defined in the PAR is the name of the PAR file, followed by a period (.) and then the name of the component or service.

and coming to the part of creation of par files :

U can do this by using NetWeaver Developer Studio IDE

    >> create a Abstract Portal component or any portal component

    >> Select File - Export - create a portal archive (Next)- select the portal project which u have created(Next) - Finish

Now the PAR file is created for ur portal application.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Anu

Portal Archive (PAR) files contain all the file based resources that make up a portal application. The PAR files can be built using the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Pluggin.

You can create and upload a PAR file for your portal Application from the NetWeaver Developer Studio. To do this you have to first configure your portal server on NWDS.

Here are the steps to configure the Portal Server and upload the PAR file.

    1. In the NWDS go to Window -> Preferences.

    2. On the window that opens, click on SAP Enterprise Portal.

    3. Click on Add.

    4. Give the Server details

    5. Apply the settings

    6. Now right click on your application's project folder and click on Quick PAR Upload.

    7. In the window that opens, check both the boxes.

    8. Give a valid username and password to login to your Portal.

    9. Your PAR file is now uploaded on the Portal.

You can altenatively upload the PAR file directly into the Portal. To achieve this, go to System Administration -> Support -> Portal Runtime ->Administration Console -> Archive Uploader. Here you can upload the PAR file into the Portal directly from your machine.

    Hi Anu,

Portal applications that are bundles of Portal Components and Portal services are packaged as PAR files. It is a format that the portal runtime accepts for deployment of portal applications. A PAR file is an archive file/standard JAR file(ZIP format) containing a portal application with an XML based Portal application deployment descriptor called portalapp.xml.

You can manually upload par files using Admin Console in PDK. You can upload through NDS also. For uploading and creation of PAR files the required steps are:

1.In NDS choose Window->Preferences->SAP Enterprise Portal

2.Click Add to create a new portal system.

    3.Enter host name,port no:,user id for login.

    4. After creating this portal landscape click Upload PAR icon in toolbar.

5.Click on the project u want to create the PAR file. Then click next.

6.Enter name for the PAR file.

7.Check Deploy PAR to upload and select a portal system. Enter password for the portal.

8.Click finish to begin the upload.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Pooja.
