optimization

Hola BPC Friend

I was wondering if I am managing properly the optimization processes

I am running the lite optimization every two hours

I am running the incremental optimization (no compress and no defragmentation ) once a day, in the evening

I am running the full optimization with compress and defragmentation once a week, at the weekend

what do you think?

thanks

Michele

Hello Michele,

Please note that there is no rule of thumb for how often to run optimizations. The need can
vary depending on the characteristics of your hardware environment and your
application.

As best practice:

  1. When new application sets and applications are created run a Full
    Optimization.
  2. Lite Optimization doesn’t take the system offline, and can be
    scheduled during normal business activity.
  3. Incremental and Full Process Optimization need the system to
be offline so they should be run at down-time periods – for example after a
    month-end close.

Please refer to the following SAP Notes:

1508929 - BPC: How often do we need to run optimization to avoid low
performance issue in BPC?

1621911 - BPC basic steps of Lite & Incremental & Full
Optimization for Microsoft and Netweaver

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Nedra.

Hi Michele,

ok for these.

I am running the lite optimization every two hours

it depends on your packages\activities. If you have a package that generates more than 50.000 records then it's better to schedule a lite optimize every 30 minutes, this because the factwb will slow down the performances and after all the activities also reports or data entry will be affected.
