Performance problems on mobile devices - tips and tricks?

Dear community,

we are thinking about giving iPads to our sales people so that they can access our CRM data in the ByD system on the go. Unfortunately, we experience a very slow navigation.

When opening the "customers" view on the iPad 3 it takes between 20 and 28 seconds to load the view. Although we have about 20 000 customers in the system, the iPad only loads the first 25 - so this shouldn't be an issue.

The iPhone 5 or the LG Nexus 4 are a lot faster and "only" take 6-7 seconds to load the same view. However, this is still quite slow... And the prefered device would be the iPad.

Do you have any experiences regarding the performance (loading times, etc.) and/or do you have any tips on how to improve it?

One idea of my own was to create a custom view. The test-view with only the object-work-list (OWL) takes about 3 seconds to load, which is already quite fast. But I fear that once I start adding other UI elements to the floorplan the view will also get slower. Can anyone of you confirm this?

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Georg

You might try running the iPhone version of the BByD app on the iPad instead.

We have one executive running the iPhone version on his iPad. It seems to have more features than the iPad version. You may see some performance improvement, too.

I have neither an iPhone or an iPad so I cannot provide direct feedback.

Try this and let me know if it works.

Hi Jim,

thanks for the quick answer. The iPhone version on the iPad is slightly slower than on the iPhone (about 10 seconds) but this is still rather long. I would like to get down to 4 seconds or less.

Do you have any experience with Android tablets? Is the app suitable for them? Are they faster?

Thanks and best regards,

Georg

We don't have 20,000 records to assess performance but loading the first 75 customer records doesn't take 20+ seconds.

I am running the app on a Google Nexus 7 tablet. My concern so far hasn't been performance but overall breadth of functionality in the app itself.

Georg,

We have some people running ByDesign in a web browser on Windows tablets.  They seem to have more success than trying to run the ByDesign app for iOS and Android.

Hi Kevin,

this would be an interesting solution. How are they doing regarding offline availability? Is this not a criteria?

Unfortunately windows tablets are not an option for this customer - but maybe this might be useful for future projects...

Thanks and best regards,

Georg,

I don't think anyone has had an issue with offline availability -- just not a business requirement for us.
