Hallo,

Luke

Translation in English:

I have a question regarding the Variants in Transactions. If I start a Transaction and then press "Get Variants", it opens the window "Variant Search". Here is a default user name (in the field "Created By").

Is there a way that this field can not be initialized automatically (i.e. it is empty)?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Yes Andreas, as mentioned by Luke, users of this forum expect the question and the answer to be in English.

There are some spaces for specific languages, like http://scn.sap.com/community/erp/hcm/payroll-dach

or http://scn.sap.com/community/german, but most spaces rely on English.

Luke,

it was a mistake to move across the Big Water. Your German won't get any better there.

(some people might say, your English won't either, but I'm the wrong person to be saying this, so I won't)

Hallo Andreas,

My German is too rusty to reply to you in German but if I understand correctly your question is about how to avoid the default user name in the variant search screen. I believe by default you will get the user you are logged in with, however you are also able to search for the variants created by other users by editing the selection manually.

I hope this helps.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Katsia

That's a pretty good translation for rusty German

You're too kind...mostly rusty writing, less rusty reading .

Hi folks,

sorry, i didnt know that this forum is mainly used by english speaking members. All the more thanks for your replies!

@Katsia: Yap u are right, the default user is the one who opens the screen. And thats exactly what i want to avoid. Best would be simply a empty field. Are there any user core data parameter i could use to achieve this behaviour?

Its also strange that if i open the "get variant" screen for the first time, the "variant creator field" is filled with my user. If i close the window and open it directly again, the field will be empty.

For the variant, our users appreciate the fact that at first, the system proposes the variants created by the user.  When required, they will replace it with someone else's UserID to see that person's variants, or they will blank out the field to see all variants.

Yes, here it goes our home advantage in at least one niche field of IT - even in SAP we are now expected to communicate in English

But there's there's still one advantage remaining:

No non-German speaker can remember allegedly obscure acronyms or field names like BUKRS, WERKS, BETRG or  RPLMIT00 as easily as we do

Hi Andi,

du kannst hier nicht einfach deutsch schreiben, du verwirrst die Kollegen ja völlig Willkommen jedenfalls

Back on topic. As you know I have sadly no expertise in HCM and do not understand the context of your question, but since it seems your question is not answered yet, just a short idea: could a code inspection of appropriate transaction give you a clue where the default value comes from?

Viele Grüsse nach Kowelenz

Hi Lawrence,

true true

Well, i think ive got the answer: A Threshold defines the behaviour. Up to 10 Variants the system opens directly the variants-overview-screen. Above this threshold the (default) user-selection-screen pop-ups.

It seems there is no way of changing this behaviour except of changing SAP standard, what is not desired.

Thx to all of your replies!
