There are lots of tools available to organise a full System Copy to reduce the down time between tasks and speed up the slow running components of a System Copy.  Also tools like System Copy GT specifically targeted at speeding up the slowest part of any System Copy which is BDLS.

Thanks everyone for replying

but what about the users security from production to test environment , I believe backup restore will copy it, but what about the other ways (TDMS/ System Copy/ Export Import)?

regards.

TDMS will not export user master records.

A restore of Production will bring the user master along, other methods can include or exclude depending on how you want to handle user masters.

SAP IdM might be something to consider to have user master data consistent in an environment.

I f you want to retain the users from the test environment then you can export the user master records before the refresh. After the refresh you can import it back.

NB: TDMS is not a free solution

Hi Bassem

As pointed out you can use the SAP Copy guide, or you can use TDMS where you can limit the data that goes across

Shell Creation (TDMS 4.0)

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-45646

Time Slice (TDMS 4.0)

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-41808

Following @Marius and other's thoughts with TDMS, you also have an option to slice by company codes, just master data and customizing, or Business Process Library (BPL).  While it does take time to setup the TDMS landscape/projects/packages I have refreshed a client with over a month of transactional/master data/customizing in less then a day with only one stopping point...TDMS will also handle annoying tasks like BLDS and other post processing steps needed by performing restores/copies.

To get the System Copy Guide, navigate as SAP Market Place --> Release & Upgrade Info --> Installation & Upgrade Guides --> SAP Business Suite Applications --> SAP ERP --> SAP ERP 6.0 --> Installation --> Copying Systems Based on NW 7.0 / 7.0 EHPs-SW Prov. Mgr. 1.0 --> Select your corresponding OS & System Type.

The best option would be Homogeneous System Copy using database backup and restore or System export import using sapinst.

and can we just update certain client data under the test environment with production data?

Yes you can. For that you can export the source client from the production system and import into the target client of the test system.

With SAP System Copy. For partial data, SAP TDMS.
