Business Question

Hi all,

I have to activate couple of SCM cubes in BW . Right now I am in the stage of gathering requirements .

And I have identified 4 legacy tables which cover these reporting requirements . R/3 installation and configuration is going on along side.

I am trying to get a mapping from the legacy fields to the R/3 fields.

Now my confusion is , I have been asked to look at some SCM business content . I am thinking once I do the legacy mapping , i will be doing the mapping from the r/3 to the bw fields.

q 1. How do I know which field in R/3 refers to which field in BW. Because in R/3 Material is called as MATNR and in BW it is 0Material. I am just picking a simple example .But what is the way to map some customised fields.

q 2 . I am thinking the R/3 system would have been customised for the company like for example telecommunication. Then these fields will not be provided by the BW business content , how will I map these fields.

I have some more questions but I would be posting them in a different post , so that assigning points would be easier.

Thanks in advance

Yes I have a set of broadly defined cubes like 0pur_c01 , opur_c02 .. I took a look at that and I am seeing the MARA table in R/3. So I saw some fields like Format , Binding ( which are custom to the company) . I see that these fields would not be provided by the BW business content , then in that case what should I do .

Through the link that you gave , it answers my r/3 mapping question . I should look at the transfer structure for that .

    Thanks for a prompt repsonse

    • Hi Karun,

That's a coincidence...I just gave an example and turns out that you were looking at Purchasing 😊 For the custom R/3 fields that are required to support the analysis, to bring the data over to BW you would have to enhance the data source to supply those fields before you can do the mapping in BW.

So from your post , my understanding is that a data source is also like a standard business content , it will not have the custom fields. If thats the case , then i will have to first enhace the extract structure and then create custom 'Z' objects in BW and do some ABAP code to map that .

Is this understanding correct or am I am missing something .

    Hi Karun,

Welcome to the SDN! Have you started looking at any business content cubes for SCM right now? SCM is quite vast, but to give an example take a look here:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/43/876737fb81ee7fe10000009b38f8cf/content.htm

If you take a look at InfoSources and Datasources you can get a fair idea to start off with about the tables, fields and Infobjects mapping.

To map custom fields you may need to create a new InfoObjects if any existign ones do not suit the business purpose.

    Hope this helps...
