Using Standard BW Extractions with HANA ERP

What would be involved to get data into BW from a HANA ERP system?  In other words if we wished to implement HANA for ERP transaction system only but still wanted to use existing (Non-HANA) BW system without modification or with minimal effort.

Hi,

You can easily build BW on top of ECC HANA. As far as BW is concerned, your ECC HANA is just like any other source system.

I'm still a little confused about a few points.  Are you saying that we should convert both ECC and BW to HANA at the same time and are you suggesting to use the same system?  Would they still require seperate data stores or can they share the same datasource?  Would it be pretty much a turnkey installation or would it take some effort to convert existing custom BW reports?  What about data from non-SAP sources that we collect into BW?

No I did not mean that. As your company is planning to implement HANA in your ECC, your current BW system can be undisturbed. You can still connect to ECC(HANA) and continue your data loads ro BW.

ok, sorry I see now.  The scenario I'm talking about then would match Lanscape #6 in the blog series (SAP Business Suite running on SAP HANA Platform with BW running on RDBMS Platform).   The blog does not answer my question though about what type of effort is involved to convert the BW data replication processes when SAP ECC is switched to HANA platform.  This is the part I don't understand.

BW can extract data from any source system, right? Why can't you imagine HANA ECC as source and build BW on it.

There are two things while implementing HANA on any System.

1) Implementing the transaction system freshly in HANA software

2) Just using HANA as a databse to your existing ECC system just like any other databses MS SQL Oracle or Sybase etc..

By based on 2), there is no effort at all in BW side

By based on 1) You will need to use standard HANA based datasources or create custom datasources. This is just like fresh implementation. Hope i have given you insight now.
