brfplus using ECC and CRM data

High volume industries (utilities, telco, media, etc) use brfplus within ECC financial process. Typically ECC data is queried to generate results. How can we also query CRM data? there are some tables which exist in both CRM and ECC - how can we define which system to check for that information? Must it be done with RFC functions?
