Hi Everyone,

In our SAP implementation project we are not using SAP Solution Manager because there is no hardware for SAP Solution Manager, whether we will be in support by SAP for "Going Live Check" if we do not use SAP Solution Manager ?.

Thank you.

Regards,

Irvan

Hello Irvan, as a pre-requisite for Going Live Check you have to check Terms and conditions for remote services.

As indicated on note 1172939:

SAP Solution Manager 7.0 is required for the delivery of SAP services. If the focus of the service includes Java-based systems, Solution Manager Diagnostics is also required. Unit II describes the prerequisites that apply in the ABAP part of the Solution Manager. Unit III describes the prerequisites in Solution Manager Diagnostics.

It's not mandatory to use the customer's solution manager, you can do that from the license partnner's solution manager.

Edit:

Also check that note to understand the rol of Solution Manager on that cain of servies:

1170668  - The role of SAP Solution Manager in Remote Service Delivery

Hope that help you,

Regards,

Luis

I would also recommend you setup a budget to obtain hardware to install Solution Manager, SAP is placing more and more services on this plat form and it will make things easier down the road.

I'm agree with Billy Warring , remember than for a standard landscape with 2 or 3 systems, solution manager don't need to much resources for a minimal functionality.

True, but does everyone have the same concept of 'minimal functionality'?  Plus it only takes one exec attending a conference to make your life a disaster, because they were told that SolMan can do this, that, and bake cookies!

ha ha .... that was awesome...totally agree... most of the 'decision makers' in IT department are having the notion exactly what you mentioned (mostly after TechEd and Sapphire)    typical story of a solman guy

Hi Irvan,

As other suggested, it's not mandatory to have SAP solution manager in your landscape. But, when you need to upgrade your any SAP products, you are in need of solution manager which makes the job easier for us. Apart from that, it has other functionality too - http://www.sap.com/pc/tech/business-process-management/software/solution-manager/index.html

I have seen client implemented SAP without solman at first, later they realized the importance of solution manager and they have implemented. So, i believe SAP will support for your GO LIVE. But, try to get solman in your landscape at the earliest.

HI Irvan,

In addition comments

This is nothing new still there are thousands of customer do implement SAP ERP or HCM solution without using Solution Manager and it is not mandatory to use Solman to implement any solution.

Rather it is recommended to do that because SAP provides Best Practices for every solution and even industry specific processes within solman and complete solution documentation repository for all RICEFW objects etc BUT if no solman is used you have to go for 3rd party software procuring license cost anyway

....So choice is urs.

In addition, later you can also test all the processes configured or implemented using solman but if not solman you have to go for HQ quality centre or some other software with license and other cost

Hope this helps
