Modifying UI of ESS Web Dynpro components

We are to implement ESS through portal using the newest Web Dynpro based business package. What are our chances of easily modifying the default layout (UI) of these components. For example would I really like to hide some not needed buttons and form elements in the time registration iview (CATS). Would it be simple (?) to modify these UIs using Web Dynpro?

Any experiences would be fantastic to hear about.
