Dear Experts,

While executing CS12 for a FERT Material I am exploding multilevel BOM. On Initial Screen in case if multiple BOMs exit for the material, system asks either to enter Required Quantity or Alternative BOM.

What is the linkage between Alternative BOM Selection & Required Quantity? How can these be alternative to each other?

Hi Waqas,

        Generally system won't ask you to enter alternative BOM & Required qty in CS12. If you have more than one BOM maintain against the material it will stored with alternative BOM like 1,2,3 etc., If you are not giving any value i required qty, system will display the bom information which you maintained with BOM master and it's base qty information. Suppose if you want to see the BOM required components information for the header assembly (here FERT) qty 200 means, you have to give the required qty as 200, system will give the required component information for the header assembly to make 200 qty, even if you maintain the BOM base qty as 1( for example) in BOM master.

Then Required Quantity field should be optional but Alt BOM should be mandatory.

But system says enter alt bom or required quantity.

What is the reason behind defining this.

Hi Waqas,

           Generally in CS12, system won't ask about to enter these information instead of it ask to enter the "BOM Application". Both Alt. BOM and Required qty are optional, if you leave the alt. BOM field as empty by default system will take the 1st BOM with alt. BOM value "1" even if you maintain with more alternative BOM and also if you leave the required field empty system will display the required components list based on it's assembly base qty which we mentioned in BOM master.

Hi Waqas,

        This error message due to more than one BOM against that material. This is standard system behavior. Just check the below thread and refer Mr.Jeevan's reply in this regards.

This error should not mention Required Quantity as there is no link between Required Quantity & Alternative BOM field?

Hi Waqas,

     The reason is, we can create alternative BOM based on lot size value. Lets assume that your FERT having 2 alternative BOM, 1st one using lot size range 1 to 100 with raw material ROH1 and the 2nd Alt. BOM using the lot size range greater than 100 with the raw material ROH2. In this case we can differentiate the BOM by using any of the field Alt. BOM or Required Qty in CS12. We can directly give the Alt. BOM field value or give the required qty field like if your given the required qty value within 10 system will pick the 1st Alt. BOM , if you give the required qty more than 10 system will pick 2nd Alt. BOM based on it's lot size range. Just test it.

HI Waqas,

              We can assign the lot size range in BOM header screen itself. Here, we can assign the lot size range for the BOM Header/Assembly material based on our requirement.

Hi,

There is no link between alt.BOM and required quantity. System explodes specific alt.BOM if you enter in the field alt.BOM in initial screen. If you enter only required qty, system checks valid from date and explodes based on valid from date. If multiple alt.BOM have same valid from date, system explodes alt.BOM1 as default.

Dear Waqas,

There is no link between required quanity and alternative BOM field in CS12. Both are different things. Alternative BOM field is mandatory only if Material has more then 1 BOM. Otherwise system bydefault take ist BOM.
