Hi BW Gurus,
I have to develop a Generic Extractor, please suggest me as to how to go with Extraction from Function Module or View.
Please suggest with Advantages.
Thanks,
krish
...anyway, krish, try to do a search in these forums...you will find a lot (really!) of old useful posts related...
Hope it helps!

Hi Guys,
I'm especially interested in the 'How to Create Generic Delta' (for 'Z' developments) Document. Unfortunately it is still shown in (another) 'How To documents' list. But accessing it is (no longer possible). Actually a lot of these usefull docs on the list are not accessible. The 'normal' accesible list of Hot To docs is for me not usefull.
Anybody still with a working link?
Or if you would like: e-mail me at JReithofer@yahoo.com for alternatives.
thanks,
Josh

Hi Krishna,
As for the performance comparison - If you do have a time stamp/cal day in your view then a data source based on view would be clearly better than a fn module based. But if your extractor has some logic according to which you need to pull the data then you have no opions but to use a fn module extractor.

Hi Krishna,
In your view has any time-stamp field/ Calendar day field which is updated whenever a record ic changed then you can use the view to create a delta enabled datasource.
To create a fn module based delta extractor refer to the RSVD_BW_GET_DELTA_DATA as a template or creating the same.

Hi Krishna,
If you wish to use a generic extractor you can create a generic extractor on a table, view or a function module. Goto Tcode RSO2 in the R/3 SYSTEM and there you give the name of the generic datasource you wan to create and on the next screen you have the choice of defining the table or a view or a function module.
Hope this helps,if so dont forget to award points.

Hi Krishna,
Approach for Creating a generic extractor is same either you opt for View or FM.
Based on your requirement you can create a generic extractor in RSO2 transaction.
Select the option whether you are creating for transaction data or master data etc.
Once you finish this and further you want to make a Generic delta , check the good How to doc at the below link.
https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/developerareas/bi.sdn?page=BW_How_To.htm
Check for " How to create Generic Delta"
Let us know if you have a particular scenario and confused whether to go for FM or View or....
Hope this help.

Ashish

Hi krish,
to use a view or a fm for generic extraction is very much depending on your needs or the needs of your business. If you will go with a fm read my weblog: /people/siegfried.szameitat/blog/2005/09/29/generic-extraction-via-function-module
Hope this helps!
