Remove Characteristics from an already activated Cube

Hallo everyone,

i need your help in an issue that i caused in my compagny.

I mistakely add 3 charateristics on an Cube with more than 30Mio data.

I want to remove them but it's not possible anymore, the cube ist already

activated. We habe sap BW 7.0 an i'm on the Test-System. what the best

alternative to remove the Characteristics without deleting the data from cube.

Hi Val,

As pointed above harish, You can delete characteristics/key fig object from info cube thru remodeling options.You can try at dev on custom cube and check it out. its works very well for you as you needed.

Without any problem we can delete info objects from info cube which holds data also.

At Bw server RSA1--> Administration --> remodeling.

Hi,

You need to transport cube structure to production. Once you done remodelling on your cube you can collect info cube changes thru transport. Release transport request at SE10 and import at target systems.

As your prod cube have huge data so transport may take hours to move productions.

thanks a lot for this wanderful explanation on Remodelling Process. I have a question about it. I did a remodeling of a cube, where i added 1 characteristic and load it with data from another infoobject. it works perfectly. all this on our D-System. Now my problem is ,i want to import the change in the Q & P-system. I'm a bit affraid since i'm doing it for the 1. time. can you please give some advices how to do it in a proper way?

Hi Vale,

Please check/perform below steps.

1. First you need to transport added infoo bject/info area and catalog. if these already available at Q and P system. no need to tranbsport  again.

2. Now you You need to transport your info cube with added infoobject(if this cube will mvoe to prod, your info cube connected targets/source transformations go inactive)

3.Now you need to transport transformation

4. at BW P recheck related info cube/transformations/info pack and dtp. wether inactive or active. if in active then make them active by using related programs.

do i not need to transport the remodelingrule? i'm a bit confused with that concept.

so in the Prod-system no need to transport the Remodelingrule??

Hi Vale,

Do one thing. Do remodelling on your target(cube), moce the transports which i said above.

do test cases at quality. if your cube was added with requied info obejct then don't need to transport remodeling.

if not seeing added infoobject at QA system then need to transport ermodeling rule also.

As my guess not needed. its just action.

You need to perform remodeling of infocube, which doesn't require data deletion.

Google remodeling concept for infocubes.
