Advantages of TM Events verses EM Events

Hello, we are currently implementing Transportation Mgt (TM) and Event Mgt (EM).  We understand that they are integrated and that EM updates TM Freight Order (FO), Freight Unit (FU), etc. with events related to these documents. What I am trying to understand is why we need the extractors from EM 0SCEM_1, 0SCEM_2, 0SCEM_3 when TM provides an extractor for events directly related to FO and FU's specifically 0SCM_TM_TOR_EXE.  Does anyone know the advantages or business case of extracting both sets of data?  I also understand that EM can calculate durations but can't that be done at runtime in a query or report?

Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott,

you are right, if you use the standard integration between SAP EM and SAP TM the events like arrival, departure,... are propagated from EM to the corresponding documents in TM like freight order or freight unit. This is done to trigger follow-up actions in TM like status updates and produces redudant data. I am not an expert regarding BW extraction, but I think which extractors you use to extract your data to BW is a decision you have to make. This depends on what data you need in BW. The execution information in TM is only a subset of the data available for an event in EM. It could also be that you set-up a scenario in which not all events are propagated from EM to TM. So using the EM extractors ensure that you have all the event data available.

I am also not sure under which circumstances extracting both sets of data is useful.

Best regards, Daniel
