Hi,
Can some tell me what is the difference between a domain installation and local installation. For a local installation say (XI/EP/BW), is it necessary that the DB also be in the same system. Can these share the same DB instance? Pointers to documents also welcome.
Regards
Hi Chrisian,
I think the concept of having a domain installation is to provide for more security to your SAP Database, If you locate your SAP DB in a seperate domain you can restrict access to it more easily then as compared to local installation.

Check the above link for the same.
Also XI generally goes with the ABAP stack and EP generally goes with the Java Stack, although you could club these two together, however I think it is not recommended.

Hi Christian,
1)
If the SAP system is to be distributed across more than one machine in the domain, it is recommend a domain installation. If the SAP system is to run on a single machine, you can perform a local installation.
2)It is recommended DB to be on the same system, if it is local installation(check point 1). The problems with the different system are access to DB(user authentication).
3) If you install all (XI/EP/BW) with DB on a single box, all can share the same DB.
