Increase in decimal places for UOM

Hello,

We have a requirement where client is saving Gross Weight in material master as "LB". Now, issue is the decimal places allowed in the CUNI settings is only "3" and the client has asked if we can increase it to 4 or 5 maybe.

I would like to know if it is feasible to change the no of decimal places settings allowed for the UOM. Are there any issues or after effects that might pop up after we change this. We have already suggested creation of a new UOM but the client has declined.

in CUNI you can only define how the decimals are presented to the user, but stored in tables is always with 3 decimals.

from OSS note 23771:

.......inventory management is always carried out in base unit of measure and quantities are managed with exactly 3 places behind the decimal point........

Hi Jurgen,

Thanks for the reply, but here It is the gross weight of a material we are referring to and its not the Base UOM for the material. I would like to know the possible impacts if we increase the decimal places for UOM "LB" which is used in the Gross Weight fieild in the material master.

the note is about quantity fields, the quantity field is independend of the unit of measure used.

so the answer is clear: it is not possible to extend the number of decimals beyond 3.

Change your unit if you need more accurace, e.g. instead of KG use gram

Dear Deepak,

You can change the Decimal places from 3 to 4 through ABAP development, but i won't suggest you that, Because first of all it will affect all your previous & future documents. Secondly if you increase the decimal place you will not be able to revert back.

As per standard the decimal place is 3
