Can we control the flow of status

Hi Friends,

My client has material 3 Material Statuses. "RE- Released", "DI- Discontinued" and "VO- Void".

They are asking me: that - if a material is in a status DI or VO, it should NOT be brought back to RE status ever.

Is that possible through configuration? Is there any exits, where we can write codes to make this happen?
