When you build the settings you have to options for filtering:
1. according to selected characteristic and you can select which one yuo want to filter and which value or according
2. Query control means the filter is derived by the Control Query. For example if you have COmpany COde and the query Control Return only value FRAN for Company Code, then this value is used as filter for the query to publish
