SAP Screens not accepting "!" as first character in any field

Hi Experts,

Wondering why SAP is not allowing any data field with starting character as "!".

Ex: MM02, enter any data field with "!test" and hit enter, it disappears. Wondering the reason behind this behavior and any workarounds for this ?
