Install of Crystall Reports 2011

Hi,

I am new to Crystal Reports and am wanting to install Crystal Reports client tool on our BO 4.0 DEV server (Windows 2008 environment) , but am not very clear on what exactly needs to be installed. We have never installed any CR anywhere before.

Do I need to install Crystal Reports Server at all or just the client tool will do on the BO server? The idea is to view the Crystal reports via BI Launchpad.

I just need some clarity on which components I need to install.

I also need to install CR2011 client tool on our local machines. Which installer shall I use. The ones under Installation and Upgrades or Support Packs and patches? Its very confusing. Thanks for your help.

Regards,

H

Hi Hitesh,

Crystal Reports Server and Crystal Reports are two separate products. CR Server is a stripped down version of BI 4.0 and CR Designer is the designer tool to develop reports.

Usually, CR designer is not installed on the BI 4.0/CR Server because developers aren't given server access for report development. CR designer is installed on the developers' local machines where they can connect to the BO Server from the 'Repository Explorer'. Once logged on, you can open or save reports to the repository.

Full Build downloads are available under 'Installation and Upgrades' and Support Packs/Patches are under 'Support Packs and Patches'. Usually a Full Build version of the CR Designer is around 500+Mb whereas SPs and Patches are anywhere between 150-300 MB.

Hope this helps.

Hi Abhilsh,

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

What I want to know is whats involved in getting out of the box Crystal Reports accessible to users via BI launchpad.

We have a situation where there are some out of the box Crystal reports created by HP (in CR2008 version I presume) and these reports needs to be available to  users via BI Launchpad. Setting up of data source and etc are understandable.

I am wanting to know how this can be done. Do I need to install separate Crystal Reports components on the server for this to happen or I do not need to do anything apart from getting the reports added to BO under Folders?

I am clear that we need to install the CR Client tool on our local machines if we need to create or modify the reports.  What I am not clear on is whats required on the server end if any.

Do I need to install SAP Crystal Server and etc on the server?. If yes, whats involved?

Also we have been advised that we are licensed to use CR2011, but in the BI Launchpad under My Applications the green icon says Crystal Reports for Enterprise. What are we supposed to use. I understand that CR2011 is different from CR Enterprise.

Your reply to my questions will be appreciated. Thanks

Regards,

Hitesh
