Dear All,
I have created a BEx Query and created a BICS connection on top of it. In the Dashboard Query Designer Base Unit of Measure like CRT and Currency like PKR are being fetching/displaying but these are not displaying on Dashboard object like List View.
1. Do I need to make necessary changes into Excel where the data being saved from queries?
2. What should I do to have my Base unit of Measure along with Currency(PKR)?
I will appreciate your reply.
Thanks!

Hi Tariq,
Have you mapped it correctly form Excel cells to List View?
With multiple datasets comes the need to manage which dataset drives which component in response to the end user selection. The formula engine of the embedded spreadsheet is an incredibly powerful and flexible method for doing this, however, as has been commented on so many times in the past, spreadsheet formulas are incredibly difficult to debug, document, and maintain. This is even more true when the use of complex formulas (e.g. ones using data manipulation functions such as VLOOKUP) is required.
If we combine these two together into an index of Xcelsius complexity it would look something like:
Xcelsius model data complexity = (100 * number of queries) + (10 * number of unique “complex” formulas) + (3 * number of unique simple formulas) + number or repeated formulas
BW does not view the Excel formula =”" as an empty string as thus your query returns no data. Formerly with the Live Office connections you needed to pass “” as the empty value string. This does not work either.
I logged this error at SAP and they told me to create the optional prompts in the Bex query itself and then use the prompt selector. However I do not want to use this selector as I use the interactivity from the components (charts) itself to fill in the prompt. This huge box I do not want to use at all. If I wanted to bypass the prompt selector component then I needed to create 2 BW queries, one with a prompt and one without one. Come on, not really an option either!
After some trial and error I found the solution. If you want to use a formula to get the prompt values you could instead of the =”" a formula like =9/0. This returns a #DIV/0 error and when you have the general Excel setting to suppress errors like #DIV/0 then it will turn into an empty cell value and the prompt value is ignored by BW.
Note: The general Excel setting can be found here:
File – Preferences – Excel options – Ignore Excel Formula Errors

Hello Naveen,
After reading your detailed reply, I'm still unable to come to straight solution to my problem and secondly, your screen shots are not showing also. I'm getting my Base Unit of Measure(CRT, CV, EA) and Currency (PKR) into my queris. But question remains the same do I need to change format for Excel cells where the Unit of Measure and Currency being saved. I've changed for Currency to Custom and now its giving me PKR. But still unable to get my Base Unit of Measures in my Dashboard Model.
What should I do to get my Base Unit of Measures and Currency into Dashboard objects?
Many Thanks!
Tariq Ashraf
Hi Naveen,
We have Currency in this format: 1,22,455 PKR and we do not have a symbol for our Currency, But when I use Currency as my cell format its giving me $ 1,22,455 instead of 1,22,455 PKR and for Basue Unit of Measure they are not being showing and my Quantity Sold format is like 2543 CRT/EA/CV. Your screen shot are still not visible to me and I read "The Operation Timed out". Would you please email your screen shot: tariqashraf42@gmail.com
Many thanks,
Tariq Ashraf
