Is BW on HANA free on AWS

I just registered for a new AWS account and i was eligible for free tier.  I activated the BW on HANA free trial service launched recently.

I could used the BW on HANA server , but when i check my AWS usage report , it shows me charges of more than 280 US $ , It shows some 49 hours usage.  I am not sure why is AWS (Amazon) charging when this is a free trial.

Has anybody faced similar situation ?

Ali,

No Worries...I had same problem 2 years back when I started using AWS for HANA and I had account balance of $680. I left server on and Just call customer server for amazon they are going to credit your account.

Best,

Hi Ashfaq,

while SAP license is free until it expires at the moment, AWS is charging for usage according to a utility model (electricity, phone, etc.). the most important step (which i conveniently forgot myself recently) is to TERMINATE the instance if you are no longer using it. i would recommend using the free AWS tier to get familiar with what's on offer from Amazon and only then trying to use any SAP product. the best way to avoid high charges is to have the alarm set at different charge levels and to use the SPOT requests.

also, you can open a ticket with Amazon to try reducing your bill, but it's really up to them if they can help or not as they may help you the first time around, but not in the future. $280/49 sounds about right as this solution is marketed at less than $6/hour.

sorry about your being stuck with a high bill and good luck with SAP and Amazon!

so is it necessary to shut down the windows before coming out, I am assuming even if you come out of the SAP server , the charges still apply. I also did log to the HANA studio for a while.

Is there anything like an auto logout after certain duration of inactivity that can be setup on AWS.
