Search Help for MATNR using customer field in MARA

I have a custom field I added to MARA (zzpotext) and I want that field to be part of the search criteria on the basic material search tab with matnr and maktx.

I tried modifying the standard search by adding the field zzpotext to the view, but it won't allow fields that are in my append structure and not created by SAP. The field is a 255 character string.

What are the steps I need to do to be able to use the zzpotext field in my search with matnr and maktx?

Can you create an elementary search help with all your required fields including MATNR.and then create an append search help & include it within in the collective search help MAT1_A..

Could be useful.

You're not allowed to replace a standard matchcode by a custom one. You need to append a search-help just like Ansumesh Kumar Samal said.
