changing of account determination for the asset classes which are mapped to the incorrect GLs

Hi FI experts,

Please help me to resolve the below issue.

I have to change the Account determination for 4 asset classes, which were already posted. I know the solution of creating new asset class with the required account determination and then transfer the assets. I do not want to create new asset classes, but i want to change the account determination for the existing asset classes only.

I heard there were some sap notes released in 2012 to do this, but could not find the appropriate one.

Thank you very much in advance for your time and help.

Thanks,

Ravi Prakash K.

Ravi,

I think technically it is possible to make the message as 'warning'. I have never myself tried it, and I would not recommend it as I dont know the consequences. But if you still want to try it, you can goto T-code OBMSG and for area AC/message 476 make the message 'W'. I believe you also then have to go to OBA5 and maintain the message as W. Give it a try if it works, but, if I can not recommend doing this, as this changes standard SAP controls.

Thanks

Hi All,

Thank you very much for your replies. I am closing this thread with the conclusion that the account determination of an asset class with posted assets cannot be changed. The only workaround is to create new asset class with the required account determination and transfer the assets from old asset class to new asset class.

Thanks,

Ravi Prakash K.

Ravi,

That is not true. Please see an alternative above. However, I am not able to recommend that alternative as I am not aware of the consequences. You might want to try it in your test systems first

Thanks

Hi Ravi,

I don't think SAP would have similar notes released because it is against it principle of integrity of historical data mining

SAP will prohibit this because there will not be any track the manner in which GL accounts are posted if accounts in account determination are changed

Further why do you want to change the accounts of existing account determination? Auditors will not accept the fact that they cannot tie up historic automatic account determination settings, no matter how genuine it is.

The better alternative is create a new asset master / asset class, trf old asset to new asset. Delete old asset through tcode as06 (Please ensure to remove the capitalization date in old asset master). In such a manner you will get rid of old asset also and wont be shown in assets report

Thank You

Hi,

According to me, once any values is posted with the account determination GL's then system wont allow to make any changes in the Accoutn determination. Even system doesn't allow to change the Account determination assigned to the Asset Class through T-Code 'OAOA'. I think it would be better if you create new Asset Class & Account Determination and then do transfer of Assets.

Thank you Malhar for the reply. I have checked all the possible threads on this subject, but all are before 2012. I was told that in 2012 SAP released some notes on this, but i could not find the suitable note. Some of the notes refer to the Landscape Transformation tool to do this, but that is a costly affair.

Any other suggestions please.

Thanks,
