Changing the passwords of the operating system users doesn't affect your SAP installation at all.

All scripts are called either by root with a switchuser (su) to the corresponding SAP operating system user (no password necessary in this case) or as OS user directly (no password necessary, too).

Best regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

this is not totally true because the <sid>adm is used by CCMS agents.

During the registration of a monitored system (from Solution Manger for example) you should provide the <SID>adm user and password to create the remote entry. This communication goes over sapstartsrv services and for this reason the <sid>adm user is required to this authentication because some sapstartsrv methods are protected.

Maybe in some specific steps (not only during the registration) the <sid>adm is invoked to perform the monitoring operation, if the password is changed, this will cause error 401 due to the wrong authentication.

Changing the root password will not affect your SAP system.

The system is only making use of the sidadm and orasid (in case of Oracle) users.

Root user is being used for the saphostagent, but does not require a password.

Kind regards,

Mark

root user is usually used by saposcol also, but password not required.

The root user is also used to trigger the sapinit script (OS startup) to start things like sapservices, but the services itself run as <sid>adm.
