A Crystal Report job failed because a free license could not be obtained

Hello,

Occasionally, we get the following error "A Crystal Report job failed because a free license could not be obtained" when trying to execute a Crystal Report on our servers. I tried to look for information online, but I can't find any information on why it happens and what is the solution for it.

Any help/ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

H. Patel

    Check below :

1217317 - Error job failed because a free license could not be obtained

    Symptom

    • Crystal Reports .NET deployment issue.
    • Run custom Crystal Report .NET application.
    • Error: job failed because a free license could not be obtained.

    Reproducing the Issue

    • license.msm.
    • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.
    • Crystal Reports 9 Developer or Advanced.

ResolutionThis error message appears because the license.msm merge module has been added to the installation project as a file and not as a merge module. As a result, the installer copies, but does not install the merge module to the client computer.

    1. Create a Visual Studio Installer project.
    2. On the Project menu, click Add Merge Module(s).
    3. Browse to the Crystal merge module and then add it to your project as a Merge Module.
    4. Add the Crystal Reports 9 keycode by following the steps listed in the Crnet_deployment.pdf whitepaper that is available on our support site.

    Additional Information

    • For related information on this error message, refer to SAP Note 1215490.
    • For more information on using a Microsoft installation package, refer to the Visual Studio Installer Help Guide.
