Process Chain stuck in Yellow - framework error upon completion (e.g. follow-on job missing)

Hello all,

We are facing an issue most frequently in Production system.

Process Chain gets stuck in Yellow, even after all the substeps within that are completed. In Display messages --> Chain tab, I can see Target event with Parameter are generated already.

Steps that I have tried:

1) I have used RSPC PROCESS FINISH and gave Log ID, Type, Instance, Variant and gave STATE = 'G'. This is not helping, as Status, Target event and parameters are already generated.

2) I tried going to RSPCPROCESSLOG and gave Instance, Variant and got Information over there. Copied that information that I got from RSPCPROCESSLOG into RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH. This is also not helping.

I could see the actual state as ' J ' - framework error upon completion (e.g. follow-on job missing) in RSPCPROCESSLOG.

Why is the actual state going to 'J' , even when there are no failures before the Process chain goes to this state ? Is it because of any database memory issue (Due to lack of processes) ?

I have searched forums, but I could not find right solution with exact issue. I got many topics saying RSPC PROCESS FINISH will solve the issue, but in my case, since the target event and parameter is already generated - I think, it might not help.

Kindly help me out with this issue.

Thanks,

VIkranth.

    Hi Mv,

One thing will be during that time system will be busy. its unable to get finished information to back process chains.

Seems like you tried all options. if you have the same process chain at quality, then re transport and prod, continue with it. lets see whether it works well or same as old one.

    Thanks

      Hi Mv,

As you said, its memory was fully occupied then think about to perform BW house keeping activities its give some space when we organize house keeping activities if basis not accepting to increase memory.

      Thanks

    Hi Madhav,

I think you need to upgrade your support pack.

which support pack you are on?

when we were on BI support pack 19 i used to encounter similar issues very often.

The ACTUAL_STATE =J is due to that further steps are not triggered.

some of the below notes might be missing .

1433195 P24:PC:SDL: Yellow process: Request gen. terminates early

1506553 Chain status is green even though subsequent process missing

1483978 Dialog box too frequent for status change

1631909 Chain does not become green or stops at IP for

1433195 P24:PC:SDL: Yellow process: Request gen. terminates early

1274864 Process is not scheduled if job is missing

1229724 Restart changes predecessor's status to 'J' (yellow)

1275318 Correction: Scheduled jobs deleted when you delete

1249190 Correction: Follow-on job registered but not starte

1391870 Correction: Status J in the case of synchronous execution

1512989 P25:PC:SDL:Loading process remains yellow during

1483255 Status yellow for asynchronous process insynchronous run

1473491 Chain not continued with termination and "ALWAYS"

1396417 Correction: Status "Red" if request does not exist

1460640 Correction: Synchronous run turns red during log refresh

    Afterwards, please perform as below:

    1. Please remove the process chain from schedule, then re-schedule it.

    2. Please activate the trace in T-code SE38 -> rssm_trace_switch (only

for this process chain, enter the process chain name in

the text box beside "for Following Processes/InfoP.")

    Rgds,

    sudhir.

      Hi Madhav,

I think most of the options have been tried out by you.

Also, it might be happening randomly with the availablity of space in BW.

Just try to check the times when the PC's have run fine in BW against the times when they have stucked in Yellow inspite completing internally. Then you can ask your basis team about the space availability during those times to confirm whether this is the issue or not.

If this also does not help, raise OSS to SAP for immediate solution. Something might need to get upgraded in your system.

Check this Note : Note 1631909 - Chain does not become green or stops at IP for synchron. run

    This will resolve your issue.

    Hi Madhav,

We also faced the similar issue few years back but were not able to get any solution for this.

For status 'J' in RSPCPROCESSLOG You might have to take care of this manually

      Hi Madhav,

I have couple of things to suggest.

1)You said it is only one of the many chains which get stuck and hence your subsequent process chains doesn't start. Does target event is generated for the last process inside this stuck chain, if not you need to manually set it to G by using RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH.

2)You can change the link between two Process chains and set it to always or use Skip option if you are in BI7.3

3)Try creating a copy chain of the Process chain which is giving trouble and schedule it in meta chain.

4)Try creating an even based dependency for the subsequent chain if issue still persist.

If it is fixed do share the work around.

    Hi,

Remove process chain from scheduling and reschedule after 10 mins. This could be work.

    Regards,

    SM

    hi Madhav Vikranth,

when you go to the context menu from the process that stuck un yellow, do you have the option of "End proccess again" ? if yes, you should folow these steps:

    1. in change mode of pc, go to the start process and change it to "start using metachain or API

    2. activate and schedule the pc (it wont be started because of section 1)

    3. go to the log view and see the menu: view > merge active version

these steps will continue your pc.

    best regards,

    Ori Shochat

      Hey,

Though its an old thread, thanks for replying.

As I didnot get any proper solution, I could not permanently fix it.

I will try the above solution, if it works.

      Thanks.

Sorry for responding really late for this. Just thought of sharing inputs as part of this issue, after monitoring the problem log for 2 long months.

We normally face issues with the Instance not getting generated for the process step and hence it won't proceed further. Then we can probably make the step manually green through RSPC PROCESS FINISH program.

However, when we face this type of issues in rare cases where we get the instance generated and even the program doesn't help the chain to proceed further, please check the following:

    1) Enough no. of background processes available.

    2) System not overloaded with full of loads happening.

    3) Same step/chain is not in overlapped condition (In our case, say 11:00 system time sub-chain is overlapped with same sub-chain present in 15:00 system time). Usually when the same step gets overlapped, system stops one chain automatically and make the gates open for the other one.

No other root cause for this ino our case. Thanks a lot for your inputs.

    hi Madhav,

I was facing similar issue. In process chain, DTP_LOAD though it is completed successfully remains in Yellow. I checked an entry for this load in RSPCPROCESSLOG table. The State is "G" but the Actual State is "J". It was happening again and again as it is the daily load. So unfortunatly it was required to trigger the processes down the DTP_LOAD manually.

Later we did one thing. We unscheduled the load. Then activated and rescheduled. Now it is running fine.
