Configuration of Variant Characteristics

Hello All.

I am working with Variant configurations.I am wondering if there is a way to limit the characteristic options available on the order entry screen based on which KMAT material they are entering.

As an example, I have three KMAT's: KMAT-A, KMAT-B, and KMAT-C. Each of them could utilize the Characteristic "WEIGHT". The problem is, WEIGHT has the values 1,2,3,4,5. But KMAT-A only needs the options 1,2,3 available, KMAT-B only needs 3,4,5, and KMAT-C needs 1,2,5. Is it possible to do this, or would I need to create (and then maintain) a different 'WEIGHT' characteristic for each combination I would need?

Thanks,

DEREK

    Hi Derek,

No need of creation of different characteristic for your requirement.

Just go to the material master of KMAT-A and choose the classification view and select the class from the Assignments tab and from the values for class XXXX tab, the characteristics "WEIGHT" values can be pick as per your requirement. Hope this will help.

    Hi Derek,

Apart from the solution mentioned above, this you can also achieve using 'Constraints'. Suppose I have a characteristic color that is being used for various materials. You can define and assign Constraints in configuration profile which is material-specific.

    Please proceed as follows:

    1. Create dependency net CU21.

    2. Create restrictions inside.

    3. The restriction code can be something like:

Here my class CLTEST1 has a characteristic CHARTEST1 which cannot have values 'RED' or 'GREEN'

    4. Assign this dependency net in the configuration profile (CU41/ CU42) in Extras -> Object Dependencies.

    5. Check the same in CU50.

    System will throw the error:

    If you proceed:

Please read more about constraints here:

Do come back in case of queries.

The error message for selecting disallowed characteristic values is

    Hi,

Since you have individual KMAT material codes, selecting the appropriate characteristics values for each KMAT material will be the simplest method.

Inconsistency check is possible by using object dependencies like Precondition and Procedures.

    Hi Derek,

We can achieve this if you can relate this weight with any other characteristics value to differentiate KMAT. If so, we can achieve it through preconditions also.

Or create a characteristic called KMAT with values A, B, C. Then, create a precondition dependency by relating these values to the weight characteristic's values. Assign this to configuration profile and check.
