Master data as a data target

Hi,

I am trying to make reporting on master data.I created a master data and in the master data/text tab I also gave the Infoarea name and I got tick mark master data as a data target,k.and master data is also appearing in the data target heading.and also My communication structure is active.

But when I tried to create an update rule it is throwing an error as given below.

this is urgent.

Plz go through below diagnosis :

Diagnosis:

The data source is not active.

Procedure:

Create the data source in the Administrator Workbench and activate it.

Hi Pradeep,

A little clarification:

you either want to make reporting on your master data

or

want to upload master data through flexible upload using data target concept. What exactly do you want?

are u getting the error when ur defining update rules after inserting ur char as data target in the corresponding infoarea.

Pradeep,

If you use a direct infosurce then there is no update rules for it, just transfer rules.

So, create a flexible DS as was suggested by the other SDNers.

In Infoproviders tab of RSA1 right click on an infoarea - insert char as data target. Then refresh the screen. You'll see data targets for which you can create update rules.

in order to do have an infoobject as a datatarget u shd have it inserted as

1. create char as data target in infoarea tree.

2. u shd do a flexible update and then define update rules for this infoobject.

i believe u did the first one, now u shd go for flexible update.

See I am having master data on which I need to develop query.

If I consider Fexible update Infosource it is possbile and If I consider Direct update during Infosource it is not possbile .My doubt is cannot we create master data as a data target with an infosource as Direct Update.

Is it possible only for Flexible update?

We can make the Info object as Info provider by assigning it to one of info area irrespetive of data loading method (flexible or direct).

If you want to create to update rule for an info object , there should be a info source which supports flexible uploading.

For your Info object there is no info source which supports the flexible uploading .So create one asnd then create update rules between IS(flexible) and info obbject.

Hi,

if you only need to create BEx query against this master data info object (this what I understood from your message), the only thing you need to do is to 'insert characteristics as data target'. Then you can start Bex and create a query.

you don't have to assign update rule ...at all.

Yes Lily is right . As per ur message I am assuming that u already have the info object with master data in it.

Now if u have to report on it u just need to goto the respective info area in the info provider tab and say

insert characteristic as data target.

That shd solve ur problem

Hi,

When you try to create the Info source for a Master data,

at the starting you should say whether you want an Info

source for Flexible or an infosource for Direct.If you

select the Flexible option, then you will create teh

update rules b/w this infosource and Data target(Info

object).If you select the Direct option, then you ca not

create the update rules b/w this infosource and Data

target(Info object).

Yes, Lilly is absolutely right. Insert your master data as data target in RSA1, infoproviders tab.

Hi,

I think that u havent assigned the data source for that,thats the reason it gives the error. First assign the data source it automatically generates the trnasfer structure and trnasfer rules, activate it.

Why u r creating the update rules,what is ithe infosurce type that ur used for this is this flexible update type or direct update type. If it is direct update then it wont support the update rules..

cmpny is my master data having attribute as pltcde and dcl.On this master data I need to generate the report for this purpose I made this cmpny as an data target by giving an Infoarea name in the infobject maintance screen tab master data/text .ok.Now I created an Infosource of direct update , and activated .Now When I tried to create an update rule for that data target it is throwing and error.

Hi,

If u dont have the data source then try to replicate that data source and then activate ur transfer structure by using the program RS_TRANSTRUE_ACTIVATE_ALL.
