Hi All,
As part of sizing the APS, we have planning to create APS's for different services in BO 4.0(RAM 16 GB). Our client mostly uses Webi report with UNX, Crystal reports, Auditing and Publications and LCM to migrate reports between environments.
As per Best practices for SAP BI 4.0 APS document, we would like to create Clone Original APS to keep original APS for further use, Dedicated DSL Bridge Server, Search Index server, LCM server and keep other services in another server.
We are having few queries after going thorugh that document.
When we have to stop/disable Original APS, after enabling newly create servers and testing them or before enabling them.
Do we have to stop cloned APS also as there will be dedicated servers for each service?
Need more information on Promotion Managment Override settings and Manage Systems.
If I start the SIA, will dedicated servers will be started automatically ?
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Narendar
1. Stop the Default APS services and enable/Start the cloned APS services for testing.
2.Below is the url for Override settings
http://davidlai101.com/blog/2012/12/25/demystifying-lcm-overrides/
3. There will be check Box for all the services to enable to start when SIA start.
Right click - properties of the service and check the "Start automatically when SIA starts" is the option to start automatically.

Hi Prasad, Victor,
Thanks for detailed explanation, it helped me alot.
As of now, we have installed BO 4.0 in new servers and report/universes are not yet to be migrated from XI R2 to 4.0.
Monitoring and tracing APS have to be performed after report migration and creation of users or after creating new APS for specific services?
Heap size for LCM APS service and cloned APS service should be default?
Thanks
Narendar

Hi Narendar,
1) When we have to stop/disable Original APS, after enabling newly create servers and testing them or before enabling them. - Yes, you must stop/disable the original APS before starting up other cloned APS services. I would suggest creating all of the APS services, shutting down/disabling the original APS, and then start up all of the cloned APS services.
2) Do we have to stop cloned APS also as there will be dedicated servers for each service? - Not sure I understand this question. If you have an original APS and a cloned one, the one you don't wish to use must be stopped/disabled.
3) Need more information on Promotion Managment Override settings and Manage Systems. - JRK provided a perfect link for that, I'll defer you to his post.
4) If I start the SIA, will dedicated servers will be started automatically ? - If you don't uncheck the box next to 'Automatically start this server when the Server Intelligence Agent starts', the servers will automatically start back up. Uncheck these boxes for the services that you stopped/disabled.
Let us know if you have any other questions/concerns. Thanks,
-Victor

Hi Victor,
My second question is :
I have created seperate APS for each main serivces like DSL Bridge, Search, LCM and created another for remaining all services.
Is that required to Keep Cloned server of Original APS service in running state as we have individual APS for each service? If yes, please share more insight on this and Heap size as well.
