Has anyone designed a BOBJ Enterprise 4.0 system with both internal (intranet) and external users (internet) and can share the architecture setup in BOBJ including authentication and any major design considerations.
This includes either making BI Launch Pad available to the external users, or pushing out reports to users manually, or pushing out reports to another external facing portal systematically etc.
Our goal is to understand what is the approach taken and key considerations, especially if there are some evaluation criteria assessed with pros and cons.
Thanks ahead.
Hi,
there are a lot of possible solutions for this Scenarion. The first Questions which comes in my mind would be if the external user need the interactivity the BI Platform offers?! Do they also need to modify, refresh, schedule, etc. Reports?
If no you could use the scheduler to schedule the reports in a static format, such as PDF, and sent it out via E-Mail or to a FTP Location.
If they need the fully blown Features of BI4 i would recommend you setup a second WebAS in the DMZ of your company so that it can be reached via the Internet. For the external users i would use the internal Enterprise Authentication.
Please consider a tight security Setup within your Folders, Universes, Connections etc. The Objects for the external Users should be seperated from the Objects for the internal Users. You can do this pretty good via the Authorization.

Hi Seb,
Thank you for your response! External users is expected to be able to create, schedule and delete reports. Is exposing BI launch pad a good approach to fulfill the requirements? Have you implemented something similar to our requirements?
Is Internal Enterprise Authentication a feature/tool?
Also have you use BI workspaces for external users?
Thanks again.
Regards,
Liz
